Profile Project Progress

Our project is called "Elder Words of Wisdom" and we decided to do the project on my soccer coach, Gino Quintana. The project is about interviewing a an elder that tells great stories or that is always giving you great tips for later on in life. I think we chose to do this project on Gino because when he was in school he kept up with his studies and graduated with a 4.3 GPA while playing a high level of soccer and that is a good example to all sport players that it's possible to have good grades while playing sports. We had to go to different places to get the footage we needed. We went to Gino's house to do the interview and we took the b-roll footage at a soccer field. 


When filming b-roll it's very important to make sure that what you are filming matches what the interviewee is saying or that the visuals flow well with what the interviewee is saying. Also you can never have too much b-roll so film a lot so you have something to work with when editing. The purpose of B-roll is basically to make your story more interesting by showing what interviewee is saying with visuals.Voice-overs help us get the reader's attention in the beginning of the video and can also provide a summary of the story.  

My team and I need to work better on our communication. Communication is key in working in a team and without it we will not finish this project on time. We also need to split up the work evenly so we get it done faster and everybody cooperates with something. This is a good way for everybody to cooperate and help out in the team. 


Based on the critiques we need to improve our interview and story. We went out to reshoot the interview and get a better story for our video. The interview needed to focus more on what the story is about and when we reshot the interview in came out much better and flow better.

Personal Reflection

This project was about interviewing someone with the purpose to know about them. This project is to help us prepare and practice for our upcoming project "Elder words of Wisdom". This project was a good practice run because it gave us experience on interviewing people and learning the different techniques and skills. It also gave us a feel of turning in your media on time and the pressure you feel. Here are a few techniques and skills I learned. 

We learned quite a few skills that helped us finish this project on time. For example, communication is important skill to have when you are working with a team because if there is miscommunication you will not get your work done on time. Another skill is to be able to split the work in between your team to be able to finish everything faster and efficiently. A good technique we learned was placing the interviewee in a rule of thirds position and not have a very profiled shot. Also when doing the B-roll the sequencing has to be 5 seconds max.

I took a lot from this experience and I can definitely get better. A few things I need to work on is my editing with the audio and sequencing. Also at one point my team was not communicating well so that's something we can work on. But overall we did a good job and we turned it in by the deadline. I think for our video of "Elder words of Wisdom" is going to be much better thanks to this practice story project.

    Hey everybody!! Here's a description of me and what I like to do.........

    

    I have been attending Kapaa Middle School and the GT program for two years. I've been living on the island of Kauai for almost two years. I came from California on July 4, 2012. I lived in California for about eight years. There in California is when I first experienced the joy and glory of playing soccer.

The first time I played soccer I really enjoyed playing it even though I wasn't very good I worked hard to improve my skills. The reason being is because I really wanted to play the soccer games and know what it feels like to play the beautiful game. After a few weeks of practicing, my soccer coach let me play the games.

My life here on Kauai is really good, but I sometimes miss California and my friends. Life here on Kauai though is awesome and peaceful. When my friends from California contact me it really makes me miss them even more. I hope I get to go to California to see my friends after 2 years of not seeing them.
